Fuquay-Varina, NC - Located in the southern-most part of Wake County, Fuquay-Varina had a population of 18,644 in 2012. The population was 17,937 at the 2010 census, more than double form 7,898 at the 2000 census. From Raleigh, residents have a 25-minute commute and the commute from RTP has shortened dramatically with the completion of the Triangle Expressway. The town’s name is derived from the fact that that previously there were two separate towns. Fuquay Springs and Varina merged in 1963 to become Fuquay-Varina. Historically, the tobacco trade and agriculture were the mainstays of the economy, but recent growth and real estate development stem from its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and Raleigh.
